While the 2018 growing season in France’s Rhône Valley had some travails, vintners are happy with the quality of the harvest. Reports indicate that both the Northern and Southern Rhône’s recent hot streak of vintages that started with 2015 will continue, yields in 2018 are significantly down which means the wines produced by the best Vignerons are dense, excellent and bursting with flavours: In short: this is a high quality vintage and an excellent opportunity to grab a case of top notch grower wine that sits head & shoulders above the mean.
2018 Luc Baudet Cotes Du Rhone – Right Bank – Pure Grenache
$18.95 per bottle – 12 packs.
The Luc Baudet Cotes Du Rhone is exceptionally aromatic, a little darker than usual. The Grenache is brimming with intensity, dried strawberry, raspberry, plums and dark chocolate, lavender and scorched herbs, a little white pepper and nice grip, a proper gutsy French red. Decant for an half an hour. An overachieving ambitious wine to fill the cabinet for all occasions.
