“RISING STAR – JOSH PHELPS”

Our Wines / Thursday, August 3rd, 2023

Named a “rising star” by Food & Wine, and a Forbes’ ‘30 Under 30’ to watch, Napa native Josh Phelps has winemaking in his blood. Josh built up an immense knowledge of the wine business through harvest work and crafting wines alongside his father—former Dominus Estate and Caymus winemaker Chris Phelps. It was Josh’s own desire to create a grassroots, all-American label that reflected his experience growing up among California vines that led to the creation of Grounded Wine Co. With Grounded, Phelps maintains a focus on what’s important in winemaking—showcasing wines crafted from premium grapes farmed by trusted, sustainable vineyards in California and Washington.

2019 Grounded Wine Co. Cabernet Sauvignon “Collusion”
Columbia Valley – Washington State. $38.95 per bottle – 6 packs or 12’s.

91 Points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The sample of the 2019 Collusion Cabernet Sauvignon opens to a broad expression that fills the glass with aromas of bright, fresh and focused red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, the wine blossoms with a well-structured expression and impressive balance for a young wine.”
Winery Notes:
“Alluringly deep garnet red in color, the nose of 2019 Collusion Cabernet Sauvignon is immediately generous, with deep, intense fruit in the form of sweet, ripe black plums and black cherry pie. Complex notes of clove and vanilla intertwine with these fruits on the palate, where, as the wine warms, the wine becomes increasingly velvety and luxurious. The finish, which retains freshness throughout, is long, with very subtle notes of damp forest floor, bay, and rich, black macerated fruits.”
Pour it behind closed doors alongside nicely-salted grilled New York Strips.
