“A TOTAL TURN ON”

Neighbours to Petrus, Eglise-Clinet and Le Gay, Château Rouget covers 42 acres that stretch across the gentle slopes of the Pomerol’s plateau near the village and old church. Two-thirds of the vineyard are located around the estate. Château Rouget also includes beautiful plots facing Petit Village, Le Pin and Trotanoy.

The history of Château Rouget dates back to 1700, which makes it one of the oldest estates in Pomerol. In 1992, the Labruyère family (of Domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault, Labruyere in Moulin-a-Vent, and Champagne Labruyere) found the estate and fell in love with Pomerol, which is known as the most Burgundy-like appellation in Bordeaux. Over the last vintages, the teams, led by Michel Rolland, Edouard Labruyère and Antoine Ribeiro, have been working on recovering Rouget’s prestige, as it was once recognized as one of the best Pomerol wines of the 19th century. Enter the 2016 vintage, and all of the work and investment over the past two decades paid big dividends with near-perfect growing and harvest conditions.

“The 2016 Rouget is a total turn on. A rush of red cherry/raspberry jam, sweet spice, chocolate and tobacco builds as this exotic Pomerol shows off its racy, opulent personality. The full throttle-style works beautifully. There is not a whole lot of subtlety, but the Rouget is undeniably delicious. I loved it. Tasted three times.”

“Wow. This is very polished and full of purpose with dark berries, hazelnuts, cedar and chocolate, as well as black olives. Full-bodied, chewy and intense with a focused tannin backbone and intensity. Loads going on here. Finishes strong. This could be the best wine ever from here. Try from 2024.”
